Travelling by open canoe allows you to see nature from a different perspective. Animals and birds appear not to view you as a threat, inquisitive seals pop up close by and once on land you get to camp in some wild and remote locations accessible only by boat.
All you need for this trip is a willingness to learn about, and an interest in exploring nature. A camera and good set of binoculars are highly recommended pieces of equipment.
This journey is suitable for those with little or no canoeing experience, as we will teach you the basics. For those with some canoeing experience, this trip also offers a great opportunity to improve your skills and develop the skills and knowledge to undertake multi-day canoe expeditions.
As much as we can, we will live off the land, utilising bushcraft skills. We will primarily be cooking on open fires. There will be plenty of opportunities to fish, collect seaweed and shellfish for those that want to try some real delicacies.
The timetable is very flexible for a trip of this nature as we never quite know what we will see and when we might see it. Natures clock is a little different to ours, dawn and dusk are great times to see wildlife as many animals are active during twilight hours. A keen eye is important and knowing where to look often helps. Animals follow set routes and being able to identify tracks and patiently waiting for an appropriate sighting can bring us very close to nature.
It is likely that we will camp for the first 4 nights and spend our final night in a bunkhouse and enjoy a final evening meal out together at a local establishment.
