Outdoor First Aid Emergency Action: 8 hrs (ITC)

Training for the First Aider

This course covers the essentials of managing immediate, potentially life threatening incidents in a systematic manner. Ideal for anyone who may be required to take charge at an incident. This 1-day (8-hour) course is suitable for some Outdoor Instructor awards. The modular progressive training programme allows this ITC course to be the first module of a 2-day (16-hour ) Outdoor First Aid and Incident Management course.

Basic Skills Refresher: 3 hrs

Annual 3-hour essential life saving skills refresher.

This training is strongly recommended by the HSE for all who have completed a statutory 3-day First Aid at Work, a statutory 2-day First Aid at Work Revalidation, or a statutory 1-day Emergency First Aid at Work qualification.

It may be used to maintain a ‘license to practice’ for any ITC first aid qualification, however the full qualification must be re-validated after 3 years.

Appointed Person: 4 hrs (ITC)

Training for those who take charge of First Aid arrangements in the workplace.

When an employer’s first aid needs assessment identifies that a first aider is not necessary, the minimum requirement is to appoint a person to take charge of the first aid arrangements. These include looking after equipment, facilities and calling the emergency services. Arrangements should be made for an appointed person to be available to undertake these duties at all times when people are at work.

To fulfil their role, appointed persons do not need first aid training. therefore it is important to remember that appointed persons are not first aiders and should not attempt to give first aid for which they have not been trained.

However if some first aid training is required, the content of the 4-hour training course includes:
* Incident management priorities
* Managing the unconscious casualty
* Resuscitation
* Managing blood loss
* HSE (First Aid) regulations
