OPAL
Teaching the Open Air Laboratories (OPAL) programme which is an exciting new initiative that aims to inspire a new generation of nature-lovers through exploration, study and enjoyment of their local environment. In 2007 OPAL received a grant of £11.75m from the Big Lottery Fund.
Careers wales
Course directing teacher training workshops aimed at promoting the opportunities for Learning Outside the Classroom, risk assessment (HASPEV) and providing activities and resources for science education in the outdoor context. Also involved with teaching local Welsh schools as part of the National Science Week in March 2010 and promoting the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programme
Greater Manchester Challenge
Evaluating the effectiveness of residential programmes designed to raise the level of academic attainment at borderline C - D grade year 10 students in Maths and English. This is a pilot study taking place at outdoor centres in the Lake District National Park.
City challenge
Delivering a highly targeted programme of cross-curricular outdoor education aimed at breaking the cycle of under-achievement among disadvantaged children from inner city London. The programme focuses on improving the educational outcomes in English, science and maths at key stage 3 level.
Field Studies Council
Developing exam board specific coursework resources for geographical investigations in both physical and human environments at both GCSE and A-level. Delivering fieldwork investigations at both GCSE and A-level for both geography and science/biology.
Bangor University
Development and delivery of higher education short courses in ecology, geography and conservation for the department of Lifelong learning at Bangor University. These individual modules have been developed for those with no prior knowledge or experience in the subjects but who have an interest and desire to learn more. The initial courses were accredited and offered the student credit points towards a qualification or higher education certificate.
